January 28 - Week 33

Hi Jon - I guess you had a pretty exciting week going to the hospital or maybe a completely boring week I don't know. Sister Williamson contacted us and told us you were in the hospital and not to worry but we're parents and are always going to worry. I hope you'll tell us the whole story. And I hope you are feeling better and can get back to doing missionary work again soon. Bishop Faux said you need to eat a lot of probiotics (I guess yogurt?) in Mexico. He was surprised they were giving you IV antibiotics because the oral antibotics are pretty effective. He said c-diff is super contagious though so maybe being isolated in the hospital is a good thing. I read this about c-diff on wikipedia: Fecal bacteriotherapy, also known as a stool transplant, is roughly 85% to 90% effective in those for whom antibiotics have not worked. It involves infusion of the microbiota acquired from the feces of a healthy donor to reverse the bacterial imbalance responsible for the r...

January 21 - Week 32

Hi Jon! I got to go skiing twice last week. First because it was my birthday and second because it snowed 24 inches overnight making a 75 inch base at Sundance. It was great both times. Provo Canyon was closed due to an avalanche but if you have 4 wheel drive there was a detour that took you on a side road near Bridalveil Falls. Most of back mountain was closed but right when I got off the flathead lift at the top of Grizzy Ridge the ski patrol guys were right there pulling the rope back and letting people go through so I got to be the first one down Grizzly Ridge and Badlands with 2 feet of new powder. It was exhausting but amazing at the same time. This week had my 4th and 5th interviews with Lucid Software but it seems like they are going to offer me a pretty low position that I'm going to have to decline. We'll see but for now I'm not really that interested in it. Grandpa Poulton is back on his feet after his surgery and having pneumonia and he was able to ...

January 14, 2019 - Week 31

Hi Jon! Well I'm 47 years old today. What an accomplishment! At least I'm still breathing and that's something not all of my friends can say. I don't love birthdays but have come to realize that even though I don't want to celebrate, other people do want to celebrate it because they love me and that's something to cherish. Yesterday mom made a lemon cake for me and tacos for dinner and today Chris and Rebecca are taking me out to lunch so I'm a blessed man. Getting older sucks but it's better than the alternative! No complaints here. The accomplishment I'm most proud of is sticking with crossfit for over a year now. I still am not lifting the RX weights during my workouts nor can I nail every exercise. I still have severe problems with pull-ups, handstands, and squatting heavy weights. But I have seen a lot of improvement in my performance and mobility and mom says my shoulders are getting really wide. It's not like I want to be a bodybuilder...

January 7, 2019 - Week 30

Hi Jon - Sundance got 21 inches of new snow overnight so I'm going to make this letter a little short and go hit the powder. This are pretty good at home but we're (I'm) going through a weird transition phase. We had a stressful December with all the wedding work and then we immediately left for Island Park which was great to decompress for a while but now we're back home and it's real life again. The boys are back in school today, Maddy and Heber start a new semester today, I totally spaced it on NFL wildcard weekend so I don't even know which teams are good this year. Maddy and Heber live across the street above Uncle Chris' garage now so they come over every day and we see them at church. It's weird. They are married. I have a son in law. This whole thing is going to take a while to get used to. I have a job interview tomorrow (2nd interview) and it's the first technical interview I've ever done so I'm a little nervous. A technical i...
