Hi Jon -

I hope you are well. I have to fly to San Jose California tomorrow for a two day trip so I thought I'd write you today.

Josh Carr just got his mission call to Kennewick Washington spanish speaking. He'll be going to the Mexico City MTC on September 22.

We went to see Les Miserables yesterday where Chance is starring as Thenardier the "master of the house". I can't believe how good Chance is in it. He sings and acts really well. His facial expressions are so funny! I never thought of Chance as a singer before but his voice is really strong. Maybe those vocal lessons are starting to pay off. Chance is working now doing custodial work at the Scera theater and he's in two plays right now so his schedule is a bit hectic. Of course we could use his help trying to clean and repair our West Jordan house but there is no way Chance can fit it in. And I don't blame him - Chance is already going strong from dawn until about 11pm every day so what more can we really ask.

Javi has been a great helper for us. Mom and Javi have been going to the West Jordan house every day for more than a week to do weeding, cleaning, and repairs. We installed a new door handle and lock on the front door and we replaced the carriage lights on our 3 car garage. Yesterday I was up there and did a lot of touch-up painting and repairing a broken garage door opener. Our huge list is getting smaller little by little. We got an offer on the house this week but it was $6,000 below what we are asking so we turned it down. Later on we might reduce the price and accept something lower but it seems silly to reduce the price after only 10 days on the market and we're only now getting the place cleaned up so it looks nice.

Cleaning the house yesterday was sort of emotional for me. There are so many memories there. I was washing hand prints off the walls thinking about little Madison climbing the steep stairs and she wasn't even big enough to reach the handrail so she would push her little peanut butter sticky hands against the wall and leave this trail of hand prints. It was the place where you, Chance, and Javi spent your first night after coming home from the hospital. I patched the kitchen walls right behind where we put the high chair where you smashed chocolate birthday cake into your hair on your first birthday. So many memories. I know we need to let that house go but it's not easy.

Work is going okay. I interviewed a ton of people this week and found a few good ones. We are moving the engineering team from Park City to downtown Salt Lake so I spent Thursday and Friday in the new office trying to get things ready. We have power strips screwed to the bottom of work desks in a bad way where you hit your knees on them every time you scoot your chair in. The drink fridge is not working. There is no printer. The worst is there is no parking. I have to pay $20 per day to park and so far the company says they are not going to reimburse parking. I hope the policy changes but am not holding my breath. Philosophically there are lots of things in this company that I disagree with but I'm trying to be happy and make things work. I'm going to try and take the train to work one or two days next week to see how bad it is. What I'm expecting is that if I leave the house at 8am I'll arrive to work just before 10am. And if I leave the office at 6pm I'll arrive home just before 8am. It's nuts.

Today at church we had a couple speak who just came home from a temple mission in Korea. She was talking about sometimes falling asleep during temple sessions and I quote "We will not be able to be perfect every day but we're certainly striving to be the best we can be." Isn't that a true statement for all of us. As a missionary you're probably not able to be 100% perfect every day but aren't you striving to be good? There's probably a lesson there to think about. Maybe give yourself a break from time to time and don't beat yourself up every time something goes wrong. If you're striving to be perfect every day but sometimes fall short just keep trying.

I love you Jon. Have a great week!

Love,

Dad
