Hi Jon - I'm sorry you didn't have time to video conference with us yesterday or send a real letter. Mom and I feel like we haven't connected with you for a really long time and wish you could find some time to update us. I spent all of last week rafting the middle fork of the Salmon River. It was 102 miles total and we put in at Boundary Creek near Stanley ID and ended at Cache Bar between Salmon ID and Riggins ID. I've wanted to raft the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness for a long time now and am super stoked I finally got a chance to do it. We drove up on Monday morning, rafted Tuesday-Sunday, and drove home Sunday afternoon. Actually we broke an axle on the trailer that was carrying 5 tons of our gear so it took all day to fix and I literally didn't get home until 6am right as mom's alarm was going off to wake her up. I went on the river trip with 20 people, all friends or acquaintances of Lance and Lawrence Gunderson. There were a lot of d...

Hi Jon - I'm super rushed today but I wanted to drop you a quick note. Maddy said you got bit by a dog and have an infection so I'm sorry to hear that and hope your healing is going well. Please take care of your body. And it wouldn't kill you to write a letter once in a while, right? I mean we can't connect every week and it would be nice to hear from you. We had a great week in Yosemite Valley camping in Lower Pines. We spent most of every day in the water - rafting down to swinging bridge, jumping at Mirror Lake, and swimming at the base of Lower Yosemite Falls. The temperature was hot but really nice - really great weather overall. We hiked up the Mist Trail to the Silver Apron one day but that's the extent of our hiking after we finished our 18 mile backpacking trip to May Lake and Glen Aulin the previous week. Mom twisted her leg and ankle pretty badly so we kept the hiking to a minimum. Javi did great though - he says he hates hiking (and hates camping an...

Hi Jon - I’m in Yosemite today and have no network connection most of the time so hopefully this will get sent out. Mom and I had a great time backpacking for 4 nights to May Lake and Glen Aulin. Mom twisted her ankle so we stopped after 18 miles instead of going 17 miles more over Clouds Rest to Yosemite Valley. Now we are camping at Lower Pines with Chris, Nate, Skyler, and Javi. I swam at swinging bride on Saturday and we rafted to Stonemans bridge after church yesterday. August in Yosemite is always hot so being in the river seems more appealing than hiking sometimes. We rode bicycles to Happy Isles and I’m sitting in a bench writing you this. I hope things are going well for you now. I hope the heat isn’t too hard on you. And I hope your investigators are progressing well. We won’t be able to talk today and next week I’ll be off the grid rafting the middle fork of the River of no return so let’s chat on the 19th. Take care of yourself and try to have some fun. We love ...

Hi Jon - I haven't heard from you in a while! Mom says you were feeling down and that you didn't love your area and were having some challenges with your companion. I hope that things are getting better. I know how hard things can be when your companion doesn't want to do the work or wants to break rules or wants to sleep all day long. It's very hard. Mom and I went through similar things on our missions and Maddy did too. Even if you feel you are just wasting your time remember that it's the Lord's time and just do the best you can. Maybe you can't change your situation at all or maybe you can do small things to influence things in some positive way. I was certain that I wasn't going to be able to attend the Poulton/Fullmer reunion this year but here I sit in Island Park writing to you. I finished 2 months at Banjo yesterday but am not going to be working there anymore. It's a long story and not very interesting but the short version is the CEO ...

Hi Jon - It's late but I just wanted to drop a few words to you and say hi. We just got home from an 8 day trip to California. We drove for 2 days, went to Disneyland for 4 days, Knotts Berry Farm for 1 day, and 1 day in Wrightwood doing absolutely nothing but talking with Grandpa and Lynne. I guess we did take a walk to Jensen's and we did play 1 game of spicy farkle but we definitely didn't do a lot. After such a long and busy week we all needed a rest and it was good to see Grandpa. Chance performed at Disneyland and Knotts and he did really well. He sang a solo and danced in the ensemble and he's really good. I hope your first week in your new area went well. Let us know how you like it and your new companion. Love, Dad

Hi Jon - I hope you are well. I have to fly to San Jose California tomorrow for a two day trip so I thought I'd write you today. Josh Carr just got his mission call to Kennewick Washington spanish speaking. He'll be going to the Mexico City MTC on September 22. We went to see Les Miserables yesterday where Chance is starring as Thenardier the "master of the house". I can't believe how good Chance is in it. He sings and acts really well. His facial expressions are so funny! I never thought of Chance as a singer before but his voice is really strong. Maybe those vocal lessons are starting to pay off. Chance is working now doing custodial work at the Scera theater and he's in two plays right now so his schedule is a bit hectic. Of course we could use his help trying to clean and repair our West Jordan house but there is no way Chance can fit it in. And I don't blame him - Chance is already going strong from dawn until about 11pm every day so what more c...

Hi Jon - It was nice to talk with you on Monday. Now that I am working, I will commonly be in meetings on Monday afternoons and may not be available to chat. So maybe when you get online, ping me on Google Hangouts chat and tell me the time period you are available and then I can call you when my meeting is over. We may also have to cut our calls short to 5 minutes or something like that so I'm not out of the office for very long. I started my job on Monday and it's about exactly like what I expected. The technology is very cool and exciting. My boss is very nice and so incredibly smart I'm going to learn a ton from him. The CEO is very charismatic and driven which of course is good and bad. I saw him speak in front a classroom of college students this week and he did an amazing job. After his tech talk there was a career fair and we had a line of 50 students waiting in front of the Banjo booth. Some of the students say they have internships lined up but would happily d...
